How do you drive safely in heavy rain?

As one of our Atlanta readers, you’re well aware of the fact that heavy rain has a way of making its way into the area every now and again. This is particularly true during the fall months.

While driving in the rain is all part of living in Atlanta, here’s something to remember: The wrong approach can lead to a situation in which you put your health and well-being at risk.

Here are some of the many things you can do to improve your safety when driving in heavy rain:

  • Be patient. There is never a good reason to rush when you’re driving in a rainstorm. Leave yourself extra time to reach your destination, as this will allow you to slow down and really watch what you are doing.
  • Use your headlights. This makes it easier for other drivers to see your vehicle. It also allows you to see the road ahead.
  • Leave more space. It can take longer to stop your vehicle when the roadways are wet, so you want to leave more space between your vehicle and those in front of you.

These are the types of things you can do to drive safely in heavy rain.

If another person causes a crash, maybe because they were speeding in poor road conditions, you should move to safety and call 911. Your health is more important than anything else at this point.

Once you’re feeling up to it, you should then learn more about your legal rights, such as whether or not you can seek compensation from the other party.
