Even if you don’t enjoy shopping, it goes without saying that you will find yourself in a shopping mall, grocery store, or retail environment every now and again. This is simply a way of life for most people.

Did you know that you could suffer a variety of injuries while shopping? Some of the most common types of shopping accidents include:

— Slip and falls. This can be the result of everything from torn rugs to wet floors to elevator malfunctions.

— Falling objects. In a retail setting, for example, items that are high on shelves could fall to the ground, thus putting anyone in the area at risk of injury.

— Shopping cart injuries. One of the most common examples of this is a shopping cart that tips over, such as onto a small child.

— Overcrowding. While not common at all times of the year, this often comes into play during the holiday season. Overcrowding can lead to hazards such as trampling.

— Parking lot accidents. There are many potential hazards in a parking lot, such as snow or ice accumulation, pot holes and improper design.

You don’t go shopping with the idea that you will be involved in an accident, but this could definitely happen at some point.

As a shopper, it’s important to know what could go wrong as to avoid serious trouble. If you are involved in an accident, don’t hesitate to receive medical treatment. You should also report the accident to the store, while also learning more about your legal rights with an eye toward receiving compensation.
