More film work in Georgia brings workplace injury potential

Injuries and illnesses are always possible in the workplace, whether they are repetitive stress trauma in an office or a severe burn in a factory. Some professions in Georgia are more likely to see workplace injuries, and are more likely to claim workers' compensation.

A new industry's boom in the Peach State is also bringing new types of workers' compensation claims. The expansion of show business in Atlanta and other cities has created many jobs for Georgians. But some of the activities involved in making movies and television shows can potentially harm those workers.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined a production company after two employees were injured on the job. One person suffered injuries during the filming of a simulated motorcycle accident, and another was injured at a studio campus in Norcross.

The OSHA director for the region of Georgia involved said that the California-based company failed to institute the proper safety precautions that should have prevented the injuries. The fine may be contested within two weeks of a fine such as this one, through a formal contestation and request for a hearing on the agency's findings.

Injuries that were preventable after an OSHA investigation should be covered by workers' compensation coverage. Employers are required by law to have insurance allowing them to cover these claims in the case of an illness or injury.

An attorney can help advise on the best way to make a claim for the coverage workers need for recovery. Legal representation can help make sure employees get the right help.
