Sun glare can cause you problems on the road at any time of the year. However, it’s most likely to become a concern during the summer and fall months.

Here are several tips to keep you safe when dealing with sun glare while driving:

  • Wear polarized sunglasses: The keyword here is polarized, as these lenses are designed to reduce sun glare and reflections.
  • Use your sun visor: This can be the difference between the sun shining directly in your eyes and avoiding glare that makes it a challenge to see.
  • Leave more space: Sun glare makes it difficult to see what’s going on ahead of you, so leaving more following space is a must. This extra space affords you more time to stop your vehicle.
  • Use your headlights: This sounds like a bad idea, but it actually makes it easier for other drivers to see your vehicle.
  • Clean your windshield: A dirty windshield can magnify sun glare, so keep it clean inside and out.
  • Fix windshield cracks: A cracked windshield makes it difficult enough to see the road in perfect conditions. This is even more so the case when dealing with sun glare, as a crack can magnify the intensity.

Just because you have a good system in place for dealing with sun glare doesn’t mean every other driver is taking extra precautions.

If a negligent driver causes an accident, move your vehicle to safety and call 911. The responding officer will take control of the scene, while paramedics can provide medical care and transportation to a local hospital.

As soon as possible, file an insurance claim and learn more about your legal rights for obtaining compensation.
