5 common causes of car accidents

A car accident can happen in an unlimited number of ways, but personal injury attorneys tend to see the same car accident scenarios over and over again. Unfortunately, even though many accident scenarios are avoidable, it seems that no amount of law enforcement -- and no amount of criminal punishments -- are enough to encourage some people to drive safely.

At the very least, if you're reading this article, you can be a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem. Here are five causes of car crashes that every motorist needs to be careful of:

  1. Intoxicated driving: Even though the legal definition of being too drunk to drive involves having a blood-alcohol content of at least .08 percent, drivers shouldn't operate their cars after any quantity of alcohol if they want to be as safe as possible. The same goes for using marijuana and other intoxicants.
  2. Distracted driving: With the rise of smartphones, more and more drivers have their eyes buried in their phones instead of paying close attention to the road and traffic around them.
  3. Speeding: Speeding limits prevent crashes and keep the injuries and damages of crashes at a minimum when they happen.
  4. Reckless driving: Tailgating, swerving in and out of traffic, speeding, driving aggressively and other "less than intelligent" driving decisions are all considered reckless driving.
  5. Not driving according to the weather conditions: When it's raining, snowing, sleeting or hailing, drivers need to operate their cars safely according to the weather conditions.

Were you injured by a reckless, unlawful or negligent driver? There's no reason why you should have to put up with the enormous costs and expenses relating to your medical care and property damages. Make sure you fully understand your legal rights and options under Georgia personal injury laws.
