What should you tell an insurance agent after a car crash?

The state of Georgia wants to make roadways safer for all drivers. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the goal is to reduce the number of roadway fatalities by 41 each year. It aims to achieve this through more proactive campaigns to inform the general public of dangers while driving.

Car crashes are common, and although many people end up in a wreck without a fatality or injury, there is still work to do. Following any type of collision, all drivers involved need to contact their insurance companies right away to inform them of the incident. During this phone call, the drivers should convey specific information so that everything goes through processing in a timely manner.

Emotions naturally run high after a car accident. However, during the conversation with the insurance representative, you need to stick with the facts. You want to start by providing the date and time the accident occurred. Next, you want to provide a detailed assessment of how the accident occurred. You would not want to say something along the lines of, "It was totally the other driver's fault." Simply provide the facts, and both drivers' insurance agencies will figure out the details.

After an accident, you want to take as many pictures as you can to document the area. Take pictures of the damage on both vehicles. It can also be prudent to document physical signs of injuries you have sustained. Text or email these pictures to an agent so that it is clear what the extent of the damage is.

Other driver's information

After the accident, it is important to speak with the other driver to get his or her insurance information and phone number. Pass on these details to your insurance agency so a representative knows whom to call. It may also be a good idea to provide the contact information of any passengers.
