How can you drive safely at night?

Regardless of where you live or the time of the year, it's safe to assume that you'll find yourself driving at night every now and again.

While there is nothing wrong with hitting the road after the sun goes down, this does increase the likelihood of being involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Here are several tips you can follow to maintain your safety when driving at night:

-- Use your headlights. Simply put, you always need to have your headlights on when traveling at night.

-- Dim your dashboard lights. This will cut back on distractions and glare inside the vehicle, allowing you to focus on the road.

-- Look away from oncoming lights. These have a way of blinding you, so look away when necessary.

-- Clean the windshield before hitting the road. A dirty windshield, such as one with streaks, can cause visibility issues when driving at night.

-- Slow down. Thanks to limited visibility, you may find it challenging to stop your vehicle in a timely manner.

-- Leave more space between your vehicle and others.

When you follow these tips, you'll find it much easier to feel confident in your nighttime driving skills.

Even if you are acting in a safe manner, other drivers may not take the same level of caution. If you are involved in an accident, move to safety and call for help.

Your health is top priority, but you also need to focus on your legal rights at some point. You may be able to seek compensation for your injuries and other damages from the negligent party.
