The Roswell Police Department recently released new details about an accident on April 24 involving a school bus and two high school students.
According to reports, two brothers were driving in a BMW passenger vehicle on S.R. 92/Woodstock Road. Upon approaching the intersection of West Road, the school bus neglected to yield as it attempted to enter the highway. The result was a serious collision.
The police report notes that “there is little evidence of braking on the part of vehicle 2,” referring to the one carrying the brothers.
As the result of the accident, both brothers, age 18 and 14, were declared dead at the scene. It is believed that the boys were on their way to a dentist appointment when the collision occurred.
In the days following the accident, an arrest warrant was issued for the school bus driver. He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield from a stop sign.
The Fulton County School System noted the following in a statement:
“It’s important for all of us to know exactly what happened that day, and the school system is working closely with the Roswell Police Department and other parties to collect information that will help uncover the facts of what occurred.”
With so many vehicles on the road, it only takes one mistake by one driver to cause a serious accident. Furthermore, when a large vehicle, such as a bus or truck, collides with a passenger vehicle, the occupants of the smaller vehicle are at a disadvantage. This has the potential to cause serious injury or even death.
