Georgia Bill of Rights for the injured worker

The Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation has created a bill of rights that explains the rights and responsibilities of both the employee and employer.

As a worker in the state of Georgia, you have a number of rights and responsibilities should you be injured on the job and unable to immediately return to work.

Most importantly, the law provides coverage for any work-related injury. This holds true no matter if you've been at the same job for several years or one day. Along with this, there are a variety of other rights. These include:

-- If you are injured at your place of employment, you may be able to receive medical rehab and income benefits that are meant to help you return to work.

-- Your authorized doctor bills and hospital bills, along with rehab (some of the time), physical therapy and travel expenses, will be paid in the event that your injury was the result of an on-the-job accident.

-- The ability to receive weekly income benefits in the event that you are away from the job for a minimum of seven days as the result of an injury.

These are not the only rights and responsibilities outlined in the Georgia Bill of Rights for the injured worker, but they are definitely among the most important.

If you've been injured on the job and you find yourself in a position to file a workers' compensation claim, you should be aware of your rights. Furthermore, in the event that your claim is denied, you have the right to file an appeal.
